Choosing the Right Pictures for Your CardsOur goal at Precious Postmarks is to provide you with the best-looking cards that we can. Beautiful digital photo cards start with quality digital images.
Original digital files work best (rather than scanned). Send the full size, original and unaltered digital file in JPEG format. The digital file size must be larger than 1200 x 1800 pixels in size to render an acceptable printed image--but larger is highly recommended, especially if you desire any cropping. The recommended dpi (dots per inch) is 300. Again, please DO NOT submit images that are under 1200 x 1800 pixels - they are not suitable for quality printing, and we will be unable to guarantee an acceptable finished product.
Please do not perform any photo editing or cropping on your home computer, as this could negatively impact the quality of your cards. If you desire cropping, black-and-white/sepia conversions, or minor touch-ups, submit the full-color, original images and simply ask when submitted that you would like them converted. If you desire specific cropping, you are also welcome to submit an example, along with the original image. Remember, however, that depending on the layout you choose, it may not always be possible to crop exactly to your specifications.
Please do not submit images of babies that contain nudity where all or a partial amount of the genital area is visible. If such images are submitted, they will be deleted from our files upon opening. We cannot make exceptions to this policy. Thank you!
Scanning ImagesWhenever possible, use digital images downloaded from a camera. If you must use scanned images from an existing photo, however, follow these steps for the best results:
- Glossy photos provide better results when scanned.
- PLEASE CLEAN THE PHOTO AND YOUR SCANNER BEFORE SCANNING!
- Only scan original prints, not photo copies - and certainly NOT ink-jet prints!.
- Your prints must be scanned at 300 dpi, with a minimum size of 4x6. If you are scanning 4x6's, simply set your scaling to 100% at 300 dpi.
- Save images as JPEG, at the highest quality possible.
- Do not perform any photo editing or cropping on your computer.
Submission by MailIf you are unable to scan a photo yourself, you may email us for a mailing address and we can scan the image for you. Your original photo will be returned along with your order.
